Prime Bank South Zone clinched the 2nd Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) crown beating BCB North Zone by a huge 213 runs on the 5th and final day of the only five-day-match domestic first class cricket at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
On the final day, chasing a mammoth 573 runs in the 2nd innings to win, BCB North Zone (235 runs in the first innings) resumed the innings with overnight 254 for 3 in 63 overs, and was dismissed for 359 in 87.4 overs.
Nightwatch batsman Forhad Hossain(85) hit a century scoring 129 runs off 219 balls with 17 boundaries.
Hamidul Islam (22) Forhad Reza (16) and Taijul Islam (not out 9) were the other notable scorers for BCB NZ.
Experienced national spinner also PB SZ skipper Abdur Razzak claimed six wickets for 102 runs; Al-Amin took two wickets for 81 runs while Mostafizur Rahman and Shuvagata Hom took one wicket each conceding 25 and 41 runs respectively.
The only double centurion in the final round for the title winner PB SZ in the 2nd innings Imrul Kayes (204) was adjudged man-of-the-match while BCB NZ 22-year old left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was named man-of-the-tournament for his 37 wickets haul including an 8 for 86 in the first innings.
Earlier, Prime Bank SZ reached in the five-day-match final round of the meet securing 2nd slot with 41 points after beating Islami Bank East Zone in the four-day-match 4th round while BCB NZ confirmed its final berth as the table topper with 54 points after dethroning Walton Central Zone.
