A scintillating double century by Mominul Haque and a century by Zakir Hassan powered Islami Bank East Zone to take a 418-run lead over Prime Bank South Zone in the first innings after the 2nd day of the four-day 6th Bangladesh Cricket League first class cricket at BKSP ground-4 in Savar on Wednesday.
Islami Bank South Zone resumed the first innings in the morning with their overnight total of 340 for 5 and piled up a comfortable 546 runs for all in 129.5 overs featuring 233 runs in the 6th wicket stand by Mominul Haque and Zakir Hassan to take the mammoth lead.
One down national coloured batsman Mominul Haque, who was on batting with 169 runs after Day-1, scored a double century with his career best 258 runs off 344 balls featuring 23 boundaries and three over boundaries while number seven batsman Zakir Hassan, who was in the crease with 47 runs, completed a century contributing 119 runs off 169 deliveries hitting six fours and four sixes.
This was the 2nd double century for Mominul in the first class cricket after making 239 runs in the National Cricket League in the 2015-16 season for Chittagong Division.
Earlier, seven more cricketers — Marshall Ayub, Nazimuddin, Rakibul Hasan, Taibur Rahman, Rony Talukder, Shahriar Nafees and Enamul Haque Bijoy — made double century.
Lower order Shohag Gazi made another 35 runs off 31 balls hitting two fours and two sixes in addition to Yasir Ali (33), Imtiaz Hossain (33), Liton Kumar 20, Alok Kapali (19) and Mohammad Ashraful (13).
Veteran spinner Abdur Razzak took a six-wicket haul conceding 178 runs while Saqlain Sajib grabbed three wickets for 93 runs and national opener Soumya Sarkar took one for 40 runs.
In reply, Prime Bank South Zone opened the first innings and scored 128 for 3 in 41 overs with Mosaddek Hossain and Tushar Imran batting with 42 and 22 runs respectively.
National coloured all-rounder Shohag Gazi claimed two wickets for 39 runs while Nazmul Hossain Apu took one for 21 runs.
In the day’s another league match, replying to Walton Central Zone’s 188 runs all out, BCB North Zone resumed the first innings with their overnight total 93 for no loss and scored 433 runs for 7 in 116 at the end of the 2nd day of the four-day first class affairs with national coloured top order batsman Jahurul Islam hammering a ton scoring 152 runs.
National pacer Taskin Ahmed took three wickets for 116 runs.
