RAB has arrested Ashraful Ahsan Jitu, prime accused for allegedly beating college teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar to death with a cricket stamp at Ashulia in Dhaka’s Savar.
He was arrested from Sreepur area of Gazipur on Wednesday (June 29) evening. Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the RAB’s legal and media wing, confirmed the information to the media.
Earlier police arrested Uzzal Hossain, father of the prime accused Jitu in college teacher Utpal Kumar Sarker murder case, from Kushtia district on Wednesday, four days after the teacher was beaten to death in broad daylight.
After the arrest, police produced the accused Uzzal Hossain in the court seeking 10 days remand in the murder case on Wednesday.
Later, the court granted five days remand in the case for allegedly killing the teacher in Savar’s Ashulia.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-3 Judge Sheikh Mujahidul Islam passed the order after hearing.
Investigation Officer also Sub-Inspector of Ashulia police station Emdadul Haque confirmed the matter on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the case statement, the tenth-grader of Haji Yunus Ali School and College attacked Utpal Kumar Sarker, a lecturer of political science in the institution, on Saturday. Utpal succumbed to his injuries at Savar’s Enam Medical College Hospital on Monday morning.
Students and teachers of the college alleged that the prime accused killed Utpal, head of the disciplinary committee of the college, in a pre-planned way.
‘Utpal sir had caught the student (prime accused) with a girl inside a classroom and informed the family of the girl about the matter, which had created anger in him. That is why the student clubbed Utpal sir to death on the sports day,’ said a student of the college.
Utpal Sarker, 35, son of one Ajit Sarker from Engeldani village under Sirajganj’s Ullapara police station, had been serving as a teacher of Haji Yunus Ali School and College for almost ten years.
