The prices of rice and vegetables has remained in upward trend over the last week despite enough supply.
Prices of all kind, of rice have increased by Tk 3 to 6 per kg and about Tk 500 to Tk 600 per 50 kg sack within a week across the country, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) sources said.
The country has produced additional 24 thousand tonnes of rice, 4.5 lakh tonnes of rice has remained in the stock and inter-supply of rice in the local markets, but why the rice price increased by Tk 3 to 6 per kg, consumers have raised the question.
On the other hand, Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam denying crisis of rice and said, “We have enough stock of rice.”
The government will start Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi soon to keep the markets stable, the Minister said.
However, medium quality rice like Brridhan-28, 29, Paijam, Kajol Lata, Parija and Ratna were selling at Tk40-Tk45 per kg in the weekend on Friday.
Price of fine varieties like Miniket, Najirshail and Kataribhog remained
static maintaining higher rates. Miniket of different qualities were sold at Tk 46-Tk 54 per kg and Najirshail at Tk48-Tk 57 per kg in the city market.
Of vegetables bean was selling at Tk 120 to 140 per kg, tomato at Tk 90 to 100, brinjal at Tk 60 to 80, cucumber at Tk 60, french at Tk 60, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to 60, radish at Tk 40, potato at Tk 25, eddo at Tk 40 to 45 per kg, clocacia stem (kochur loti) at Tk 40 to 45 per kg, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 40 to 60 per piece, bottle gourd at Tk 50 to 60, ash gourd at Tk 30 to 35 per piece, cabbage at Tk 30, cauliflower at 25 to 30 per piece, coriander leaves at Tk 300 per kg, green chilli at 60 to 80 per kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 350 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 300 to 320 per kg.
Cultivated Cat Fish (Shing) was selling at Tk 400- 550 per kg, barbel at Tk 450 to 600, butter fish at Tk 250 to 300, lobster at Tk 450 to 600 kg, shrimp (River) at Tk 400-550, Puti at Tk 150 per kg, puti (live) at Tk 250 kg, cultivated koi at Tk 160 to 180 per kg and koi (river) at Tk 400 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchada) at Tk 1050 kg, walking fish (Shoal) at Tk 300 per kg, lata fish at Tk 180 to 220 and Eel at Tk 300 to 600 kg, sheat (boal) at Tk 300 to 550 per kg, Ek-thotta (Kaitta fish) at Tk 350 to Tk 400, Baila at Tk 450 to 600 kg, coral fish at Tk 550 kg, river Pangas at Tk 350 kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 130 kg, Rajputi at Tk 300 per kg, Tilapia at Tk 140 to Tk 200 kg, Ruhit at Tk 250 to Tk 380 per kg, medium size carp (katol) at Tk 230 -360 per kg.
Medium size of two pieces Hilsha weight 800gram to 900 was selling at Tk 1400 to 1500, while big size was selling at Tk 2000 to 2200.
Sugar (white) was sold at Tk 70 to 76 per kg, while sugar brown sold at Tk58 to 65.
Prices of onion increased by Tk 5 a kg as local varieties were sold at Tk 40-Tk 45 and imported at Tk 25 to Tk 35 a kg last week.
Ginger price increased by Tk10-Tk 20, while broiler chicken price also witnessed a Tk 5 hike per kg in a week.
