Prices of rice, ginger, red lentil, broiler up

Anisul Islam Noor :The prices of rice, ginger, red lentil and broiler has increased in the city’s kitchen markets on Friday. Sellers said that short supply and increase of demand contributed to the rise of price.The price of coarse varieties of rice rose by taka two to four per kg in the retail markets, but the fine varieties remained unchanged, selling at Tk 48 to Tk 54 per kg. The coarse varieties were selling at Tk 44 to 46 per kg. The BR-28 was selling at Tk 42 to Tk 45 and Parija at Tk 38 Tk 42 only.Retailers blamed wholesalers for the rise of the ginger price by Tk 10 to 20 per kg. The imported ginger was selling at Tk 280 to 315 per kg while the local one was retailing at Tk 240 to 260. The price of onion decreased by Tk 2, selling at Tk 24 per kg but garlic price remained unchanged, selling at Tk 70 per kg.The prices of vegetables remained stable. Aubergine was selling at Tk 30 to Tk 40 per kg, bitter gourd at Tk 40, bean at Tk 30, cucumber at Tk 30 to 35, okra at Tk 40 to 50, papaya at Tk 20, carrot at Tk 30, tomato at Tk 40 to 50, brinjal at Tk 25 to 30, snake gourd at Tk40, french at Tk 50, potato at Tk15 to 20, horse raddish at 40 to 50, radish at Tk 30, turnip at Tk25, pea at 40 to 50, cauliflower at Tk 30 to 40 per piece, parbal at Tk 30 to 40, teasel gourd at Tk 60, pumpkin medium size at Tk 50 to 60, gourd at Tk40 to 60, ash gourd at Tk30 to 40 based on size and coriander leaves at Tk 250 per kg, green chilli at Tk60 to 70, capsicum (red) at Tk650 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk300 to 400.Broiler price increased by Tk 10 a kilogram in the last two days and the item was selling at Tk 150 to Tk 155 per kg on Friday while the local fowl at Tk 400 to 550 per kg, beef Tk 290 while mutton or red meat at 450 per kg and duck was at Tk350 to 380 per kg, pigeon at Tk260 two pieces. The price of red lentil imported from Turkey and Canada increased by Tk 2 per kg and was selling at Tk 84 to Tk 90 per kg on Friday. Sajjad Hossain, a retailer doing business at Karwan Bazar kitchen market, said the price of red lentil increased in the wholesale market as the import of the item dropped.Sugar price remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 48 toTk 50 per kg. Super palm oil price also remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 74 to Tk 80 a litre.The price of palm oil remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 76 to Tk 78 a litre.The price of bottled soybean oil remained unchanged and a 5-litre can was selling at Tk 560 to Tk 575. The unpacked soybean oil was retailing at Tk 112-Tk 115 a kg.Fish prices remained stable over the week. Hilsha price has fallen and it was selling at Tk700 to Tk750 per piece weighing 750 to 800 gram. Barbal and the scorpion fish were selling at Tk 700 to Tk 800 per kilo each, ruhit at Tk 280 to 450, carp at Tk 230 to Tk 400, lobster at Tk 1,000 to 1,200, pangas at Tk 170 to 200, tilapia at Tk 180 to Tk 230, mola for Tk 250, climbing fish at Tk 250 to 600, lata at Tk 200 to Tk 300, tatkini at Tk 230 to Tk 250, sheat fish at Tk 300 to Tk 500, small fry fish for Tk 250 and butter fish at Tk 660 to Tk 700. Sea fishes Marcel at Tk250 to 270, Surma fish at Tk280 to 340.Besides, the price of different kinds of dry fishes also increased by about Tk 20 to 50 per kg.
