Price of poultry items gone up in the Sylhet district without any specific reason. The items are amply available in the local kitchen markets here such as Bandar Bazar, Notun Kodamtoly Bazar, LalaBazar and Jalalpur Bazar, but the price is high. Different varieties of chicken such as Shonali, Pakistani cock and highbred weighted around 500 to 800 kg are being sold at Tk 130 to Tk 175. The price range was Tk 85 to Tk 120 a couple of months ago. The price of per kg broiler now is Tk 140 to Tk 150 which was Tk 110 to Tk 120 two months ago. Layer is now being sold at Tk 160 to Tk 165 per kg against Tk 130 to Tk 140 earlier. Egg was being sold at Tk 6.0 to Tk 7.0 per piece in the wholesale market a couple of months ago which is now being sold at Tk 9.0 to Tk 9.50.
A school teacher Abdul Hei said it is very hard time for us to by a chicken because of its increased price. Chick grows slowly in the winter season which is another reason for hike in price.
