Speakers at a round table discussion on Friday urged the government to support producers to reduce prices of drugs and also to exempt the tax against import of life saving machineries.
Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS), a voluntary organization, organized the roundtable meeting styled “Kidney Disease and Obesity : Healthy lifestyle for healthy kidney”, as parts of its month-long program, chalked out for observing the World Kidney Day.
In the discussion, it was informed that “One third people in the world are overweight, around 67 crore people are obese, which is risky for lot many killing diseases. One fourth people in Bangladesh are suffering from obesity, according to WHO people die from diseases caused by overweight or over eating is much more than die from malnutrition”, The data was revealed at a roundtable meeting, organized to mark the World Kidney Day-2017 at the National Press Club on Friday.
Speakers mentioned that more than 3 lakhs of people die untimely in USA every year due to diseases caused by overweight, it costs $150 billion or Tk. 14 lakh 40,000 crore for their treatment which is about four times higher than our national budget.
Mentioning that the prices of medicine in Bangladesh is sky high, so the speakers urged the government to reduce the price of medicine and also to exempt the tax on importing related machineries.
They mentioned that reducing risk of at least 68 percent of death is possible only by changing lifestyle, the habits include regular walking, consuming sufficient fruits and vegetables, keeping weight under control, avoiding smoking etc.
