The price of vegetables showed upward trend at the weekend on Friday in the city’s kitchen markets due to fall of supply. The people of middle income and lower middle-income groups are suffering for it.
Traders said, incessant rainfall has been hampering supply of the items in the capital putting an adverse impact on their price.
The price of vegetable items usually remains high at the end of rainy season. Heavy rainfall this year has put on adverse impact on the price, said Md Emran Master, President of the Bangladesh Kancha Mal Arot Malik Samity.
He said, such hike will not linger as the winter vegetables have started arriving in the market soon.
The green chili was selling at Tk 160 to 200 per kg, brinjal at Tk 60 to 80 kg, tomato at Tk 100 to 120 kg, carrot at Tk 60 to 70 kg, potato at Tk 25 to 30 kg, bitter gourd at Tk 60 to Tk 70 kg, balsam apple at Tk 55 kg, okra at Tk 70 to 80 kg, cucurbitaceous at Tk 55 to 65 kg, cucumber at Tk 55 to 65 kg, spone gourd at Tk 50 to 60 kg, arum at 45 to 55 kg, radish at Tk 35 to 40 kg, papaya at Tk 40 kg, french at Tk 80 to 85 kg, snake gourd at Tk 50 to 60 kg, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 50 to 60 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 40 to 45 piece, bottle gourd at Tk 50 to 65 piece, ash gourd at Tk 45 to 50 piece, coriander leaves at Tk 500 kg. Capsicum (red) at Tk 600 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 400 to 450 kg.
The local onion was selling at Tk 78 to 80 per kg, while the imported onion at Tk 77 to 78 kg. Imported garlic’s price also rose by Tk 10 per kg and was selling at Tk 110 to 120 kg only, and local garlic at Tk 80 kg. Imported ginger marked a rise by Tk five to 20 and was selling at Tk 170 to 180 per kg. The locally produced ginger was selling at Tk 130 to 140 kg based on quality.
The price of red lentil remained high and the fine variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 130 per kg while the imported item (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 100 kg over the week.
Five liters of Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 490 to Tk 505, loose super palm oil at 75 per liter, sugar price rose by Tk3 per kg and it was selling at Tk 48 to 50 per kg and molasses at Tk 70 to 120 and
flattened rice at Tk 70 to 90. The coarse rice was selling at Tk 32 to 34 per kg, Pyjam at Tk 36 to 38 kg, Nazirshail brand of rice at Tk 48 to 54 kg, Minicate at Tk 48-52 kg, Kattari bhog at Tk 80 kg, Pillau rice (Badsha bhog) at Tk 85 to 100 kg and Kalijira at Tk 100 to 115 kg only. Coarse flour was selling at Tk40 per kg and a 2-kg packet at Tk 75.
Two pieces of hilsha weighing about 1.3 kg to 1.4 kg were selling at Tk 2600 at Karwan Bazar fish market on Friday; while a pair weighing 700 to 800 grams were selling at Tk1800 to 1900. Of the other fishes, Puti was selling at Tk 250 per kg, live puti at Tk 400 kg, Kholisa at Tk 300 a kg, Chapila at Tk 400 a kg, cultivated koi at Tk 200 to 300 a kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchada) at Tk 1200 a kg, Chanda small at Tk 250 a kg, walking fish (Shoal) at Tk 350 a kg, Eel at Tk 450 a kg, Meni at Tk 400 a kg, sheat (boal) at Tk 600 to 800 a kg, Ek-thota (Kaitta fish) at Tk 550 a kg, Coral Fish at 550 a kg, river Pangas at Tk 700 a kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 170 a kg, Rajputi at Tk 450 a kg, Tilapia at Tk 180 a kg, Ruhit at Tk 350 a kg, medium size carp (katol) at Tk 250-300 a kg, big size katol at Tk 400 a kg, local variety of Cat fish (Shing) at Tk 500-900 a kg, barbel at Tk 800 a kg, lobster at Tk 800-1000 a kg, and shrimp at Tk 350-400 a kg.
Beef is selling for Tk 400 per kg and the red meat at Tk 500 to 550 a kg. A medium size local cock was selling at Tk 450 to 600 per piece and hen at Tk 300 to 340 piece. The boiler chickens’ price stands at Tk 140 to 150 a kg.
The egg (farm) was selling at Tk 40 per hali (4 pieces), egg (local) at Tk 50 and egg (duck) at Tk 45 to Tk 48. Pigeon per pair was selling at Tk180 to Tk 250 and four koil birds were selling at Tk 200 based on size.
