Price of vegetables shot up due to flood

The vegetables’ price rose in the city markets marginally in the mid of the week after the floodwater washed away the agriculture lands last month.
The supply of vegetables, therefore, has fallen affecting the price, said a wholesaler over phone. It will take time to become normal as the water is registering fall very slowly.
Bean was found selling at Tk100 per kg and brinjal at Tk 60 to Tk75 in the city’s kitchen markets on Monday. Bitter gourd was selling at Tk 40 to Tk60, cucumber Tk 30 to 40, okra Tk 40 to 45, papaya Tk 25, carrot Tk 70, tomato Tk 90 to 110, snake gourd Tk 40, french Tk 60, radish Tk 35, cauliflower Tk20 to 25 per piece, cabbage Tk 40 per piece, parbal Tk30 to 40, teasel gourd Tk40 to 45, pumpkin (medium size) Tk 50 to 60 per piece, gourd Tk50 to 60, ash gourd Tk35 to 40, coriander leaves Tk 250 per kg, green chilli Tk120 to 150, capsicum (red) Tk650 kg and capsicum (green) Tk300 to 450.
At Karwan Bazar fish market on Friday, a big size of hilsha (river shad) was found selling at Tk 1200 per piece while a middle size one at Tk 650 and small one at Tk 350. A big size of pangas fish was selling at Tk 200 per kg while a small size at Tk 140, climbing fish at Tk 400-600, ruhit (small) at Tk 300-400 and big size thereof at Tk 400. Carp fish was selling at Tk 250 to Tk 400,
butter fish at Tk 600, scorpion fish at 400 to Tk 600, cat fish at Tk 600 to Tk 800 and small varieties of fishes like small fry was sold at Tk 300, mola at Tk 300, and kachki at Tk 260.
Price of chicken, especially local chickens still remains unchanged. A medium size of local chicken was selling at Tk 350 while a big size one for Tk 500-650 on Monday. The boiler chickens’ price stands for Tk 175 per kg. A pair of baby pigeon was sold at Tk180 to 20. Each kg of beef was selling at Tk 320 and red meat at Tk 500.
Imported garlic was selling at Tk 80 and local one at Tk 70. Imported ginger was selling at Tk 190, local produce at Tk 180 only, local onion at Tk 40, imported onion (India) at Tk 38 and lentil at Tk 110. A five litres Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 530 and Teer brand at Tk 530. A two litres canned at Tk 232 only. Sugar was at Tk48 per kg on Friday.
The price of crushed spices remained unchanged. Pepper was selling at Tk 40 per 100 grams, turmeric at Tk 28 and coriander seeds (dhania) at Tk 32.
Of the rice, Nazirsail was selling at Tk53 to 55 per kg. The coarse rice Tk 35, Pyjam at Tk 34, Kataribhogh at Tk 75 and Minicate at Tk 52-54.
