Price of vegetables, fish marks sharp rise

Price of vegetables and fish marked sharp rise in the city markets on Saturday. The rate of increase is Tk eight to Tk 20 per kg.
Potato was selling at Tk16 to Tk25 per kg on Saturday. Balsam apple at Tk80, Aubergine at Tk 40 to Tk50, bitter gourd at Tk 50, cucumber at Tk 25 to 35, okra at Tk 30 to 40, papaya at Tk 40, parbal at Tk 50, carrot at Tk 70, tomato at Tk 70 to 80, brinjal at Tk 35 to 45, snake gourd at Tk40, french at Tk 50, horse raddish at 50 to 60, cauliflower at Tk40 to 50 per piece, cabbage atTk40, parbal at Tk 30 to 35, teasel gourd at Tk 40 to 50, pumpkin medium size at Tk 50 to 60, gourd at Tk30 to 40, ash gourd at Tk25 to 30 depending on size, coriander leaves at Tk 250 per kg, green chilli at Tk70, capsicum (red) at Tk450 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk300 to 350.
Imported garlic was selling at Tk 80 and local variety at Tk 60 per kg. Imported ginger was selling at Tk 260 per kg while ginger was available at Tk200 per kg in the city markets.
In most of the city’s kitchen markets, local onion was selling at Tk 35 per kg, while imported onion (India) at Tk 28 and lentil at Tk 110 per kg.
A 5-kg Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 530 per litre and Teer brand at Tk 530.
Price of different varieties of rice however, remained unchanged. Coarse rice was selling between Tk 34 and Tk 35 a kg, nazirshail at Tk 49-56 per kg, pyjam at Tk 34, kataribhogh at Tk 75 and Minicate at Tk 52-54 per kg.
Mukter Hossain, a trader of the city’s Khilgaon Bazar, said the short supply of fish has the price pushed the price up putting fixed income group people to serious inconvenience.
At Karwan Bazar fish market on Saturday, it was found that a big size of hilsha was selling at Tk 1200 per piece while a middle size at Tk 600 and small one at Tk 300 per kg. A big size pangas fish was selling at Tk 200 per kg while a small size at Tk 140, climbing fish at Tk 300-500, ruhit (small) at Tk 300-400 and big-sized ruhi at Tk 400.
Egg was sold at Tk 30 per hali (four pieces) and sugar at Tk 53 per kg in the city’s kitchen markets.
Prices of local poultry birds went up in the city’s kitchen markets following increased demand. A piece of medium size local poultry bird was sold at Tk 200 while a big size at Tk 350-400 yesterday. On the other hand, broiler poultry birds were selling at Tk 160 per kg.
The price of crushed spices remained unchanged. Turmeric was selling at Tk 300 a kg and coriander seeds (dhania) powder at Tk 120.
Per kg of beef was selling at Tk 280 to Tk300 and mutton at Tk 470-500 in the city’s kitchen markets.
