Price of rice, egg mark sharp rise

The price of Nazirsail brand of rice rose by Tk 5 per kg in last 18 days and was selling for Tk 55 at South Goran under Khilgaon Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan on Friday.
It was Tk 50 just before the Eid-ul-Fitr and Tk 54 a week ago. When asked, a wholesaler said, there was hardly any possibility of the price’s coming down shortly. As for other brands of rice, coarse rice was selling between Tk 34 and Tk 35, Pyjam at Tk 34, Kataribhogh at Tk 75 and Minicate at Tk 52-54.
On the other hand, the price of egg increased by Tk eight per hali (four pieces) in last five days, selling at Tk 36 on Friday. The meat and chicken prices also marked upward trend. The beef and red meat were selling at Tk 320 and Tk 450 respectively on Friday.
Price of chicken, especially local chickens still remains unchanged. A medium size of local chicken was selling at Tk 350 while a big siz one for Tk 500-650 on Friday. The boiler chickens’ price stands for Tk 175 per kg.
The price of fish per kilo in the city’s chicken markets on Friday last was as under:
Scorpion and barbal k 600 to Tk800, lobster and prawn Tk700 to Tk 1000, ruhit Tk 280 to 450, carp Tk 230 to Tk 400, pangas Tk 170 to 200, tilapia Tk 180 to Tk 230, mola Tk 250, climbing fish (Koi mas) Tk 250 to 600, lata Tk 200 to Tk 300, Tatkini Tk 230 to Tk 250, Sheat fish (Boal mas) Tk 300 to Tk 500, fry fish Tk 250, Butter fish Tk 800 to Tk 1,100. Marcel (one kind of sea fish) Tk 250 to 270, Surma fish Tk280 to 340 and Mackerel Tk 250 to 300 only. The price of different kinds of dry fishes was also raised by about Tk 30 to 50 per kg.
Besides, at Karwan Bazar fish market on Friday, a big size of hilsha (river shad) was found selling for Tk 1,300 per piece while a middle size fort Tk 600 and small size for Tk 300.
The vegetables’ price per kilogram was as under in the city’s kitchen markets on Friday:

cauliflower Tk20 to 25 per piece, cabbage Tk 40, parbal Tk30 to 40, teasel gourd Tk40 to 45, pumpkin (medium size) Tk 50 to 60 per piece, gourd Tk40 to 50, ash gourd Tk35 to 40, coriander leaves Tk 400 per kg, green chilli Tk120 to 150, capsicum (red) Tk650 kg and capsicum (green) Tk300 to 450.
Imported garlic was selling at Tk 90 and local one at Tk 80. Imported ginger was selling at Tk 260, local produce at Tk 200 only, local onion at Tk 45, imported onion (India) at Tk 43 and lentil at Tk 110. A five litres Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 530 and Teer brand at Tk 530. A two litres canned at Tk 232 only.
The price of crushed spices remained unchanged. Pepper was selling at Tk 40 per 100 grams, turmeric at Tk 28 and coriander seeds (dhania) at Tk 32.
