Newly harvested onion, appeared in all the markets of the country long ago and it is abundantly available every where. But all on a sudden its price has registered along with some other essential commodities like edible oil and rice. It (onion) is now being sold in the local markets at Tk.40 per kg as against of Tk.25 last week. As a result, consumers are sufferings a lot of inconveniences. When contacted Md. Abdullah Sardar, a retailer of onion of the district market told this correspondent that the local whole sellers are responsible for it. He added, consumers are not willing at all to purchase imported onion though its price is comparatively less..
Position of garlic, one of the most important gradients of the kitchen has also shot up in the local markets. It is now being sold here at Tk.130 to Tk.140 per kg as against of Tk.95 to k.100 previously.
Price of all kinds of edible oil already increased. One (1) liter packed Soya-bean oil is now being sold here at Tk.120 to Tk.124 according to qualities as against of Tk.100 while per liter loose Soya-bean oil is selling at Tk.120 in stead of Tk.95 to Tk.100 previously. Mustard oil (loose) is selling in the local markets at Tk.160 per kg as against of Tk.120 previously.
But prices of all kinds of winter vegetables are within the reach of commoners. Cauliflower, cabbage, bean, Barbati (one kind of beans), etc. are selling in the local markets less Tk.20 per kg while egg plant is being sold at Tk.40 per kg. But the price of Karolla is high. It is selling here at Tk.60 per kg. But potato which once regarded as the highest priced vegetables is now being sold at the (Tk.14 to Tk.15 only).
