Price of onion down in Bagerhat

With the appearance newly harvested local onion, a must item for Bengali kitchen in the markets its price has shown a downward trend. But still its price is out of the reach of the commoners. It is now being sold in the local markets at Tk.100 to Tk.110 per kg according to qualities. On the other hand, old onion is being sold here at Tk.110 to Tk.120 per kg as against of Tk.200 to Tk.230 previously. But its quality is very inferior.
Price of garlic which is also regarded as an important ingredient of the kitchen is remaining same as before. Local garlic is selling in the local district markets at Tk.190 per kg. But its quality is very poor. On the other hand, imported Chinese garlic is selling here at Tk.160 per kg as against of Tk.190 previously. Price of ginger has fallen short. It is now being sold here at Tk.160 per kg instead of Tk.260 previously. Prices of all other spices are also high. Price of pulses has increased here to some extent. Quality Mushuri is now being sold here at TK. 100 to Tk.115 per kg while quality Mug is selling at Tk. 120 or more per kg. Motor pulse is selling here at Tk.60 per kg while Khesari, the lowest quality pulse is selling at Tk.50 per kg.
Price of eggs produced in farms has fallen short to some extent. But the price of locally produced eggs is still high. At present farm produced eggs are now being sold in the local markets at Tk.34 to Tk.36 per Haly of four. But the supply of the eggs of ducks and local poultry has fallen short and their price is very high. They are now being sold in the district markets at Tk.44 to Tk.48 per Haly of four.
 Supply of winter vegetables is sufficient in the local markets. But their price is still high. Cauliflower is selling here at Tk.40 to Tk. 50 per kg according to qualities, Bean is selling at Tk.50, cabbage at Tk.35, Gazor at Tk.60, Barbati at Tk.50, flower of onion at Tk.40 per kg. But the price of Usche is unbelievably high. It is now being sold here at Tk.100 per kg.
The supply of all kinds of fish is abundantly available here. But their prices are high in the local markets. Small sized hilsa is selling here at Tk.400 to Tk.600 per kg according to different sizes while the hilsa of stand sized, if available, is selling at Tk.1000 to Tk.1500 per kg according to sizes. Patari (Koral) is a popular fish of the localities. But its price is now out of the reach of the commoners.
It is now being sold here at Tk.400 to T.1200 or more per kg according to different sizes as against of Tk.300 to Tk.700 previously. Ruhit is selling in the local markets at Tk.300 to Tk.600 or more per kg. Comparatively price of Koi fish cultivated in farms is chief. It is selling here atTk.250 to Tk.500 per kg according to different sizes.
 Beef is selling here at Tk.500 or more per kg. It is alleged that in some cases flesh of buffalo is sold in the markets in the name of beef. Mutton is selling here at Tk.750 or more per kg. But quality mutton is hardly available in the local markets.
 Broiler is sold here at Tk.120 or more per kg instead of Tk.110 while the broiler crock is selling at Tk.200 or more per kg. Red mother poultry is now being sold here at Tk.250 per kg as against of Tk.200 previously while mother poultry is selling at Tk.220 or more per kg. Local poultry is selling Tk.350 to Tk.400 per kg. But in many cases Sonali poultry bird is being sold here at Tk.300 or more in the name of local poultry, it is alleged.
 But the price of all kinds of rice is same as before.
