The price of imported ginger has increased by Tk 60 to Tk 80 per kg in the city’s kitchen markets on Saturday in view of high demand before Eid-ul Azha.
The essential item was selling at Tk 280 to Tk300 per kg while it was sold at Tk 220 in the previous week.
Prices of other curry items were stable while vegetables price has increased due to fall of supply in the city.
Visiting Karwan Bazar, Muhammadpur Krishi Market, Malibagh Kitchen Market, Fakirapool and Rampura, the reporter found that both local and imported onions were selling at Tk 40 to Tk42 per kg and garlic at Tk80 to Tk95 per kg.
Replying to question, the traders blamed excessive demand as the reason behind sharp rise of ginger.
Sugar and milk price remains normal and it was selling at Tk50 to Tk52 per kg and at Tk 62 to Tk65 per liter.
Vegetables price has increased by Tk5 to Tk20 per kg despite millions of people left Dhaka by this time. Bean was selling at Tk80 per kg on Saturday, brinjal at Tk 60 to Tk70, tomato at Tk120 to Tk140, bitter gourd at Tk 40 to Tk50, cucumber Tk 40 to 50, okra Tk 45 to 50, papaya Tk 20, carrot Tk 70, snake gourd Tk 60, french Tk 60, cauliflower Tk25 to 35 per piece, cabbage Tk 30 to 50 per piece, parbal Tk30 to 40 per kg, teasel gourd Tk40 to 45, pumpkin (medium size) Tk 50 to 60 per piece, gourd Tk50 to 60, ash gourd Tk35 to 40, coriander leaves Tk 250 per kg, green chilli Tk80 to 100, capsicum (red) Tk550 kg and capsicum (green) Tk300 to 450.
The price of fish fell due to decrease of the demand on Saturday. At Karwan Bazar fish market (wholesale), four-piece big size (1 kg)
hilsha (river shad) were selling (4 piece) for Tk 1400 to 2000 while a middle size (700gm) (4 pieces) for Tk 1000 to Tk1200 and small size (400gm) for Tk700 to Tk800.
Nazirshail brand was selling at Tk55. As for other brands of rice, coarse rice was selling between Tk 33 and 34, Pyjam at Tk 35, Kataribhogh at Tk 75 and Minicate at Tk 52-54. Pillau rice (Badsha bhog) was selling at Tk70 to Tk90 per kg and Kalijira was selling at Tk100 to Tk115 per kg.
