Anisul Islam Noor :The price of garlic, onion and sugar continued to increase in the city’s kitchen market despite adequate supply. Dealers blame higher production cost of sugar at home for rise of price by at least Tk 30 in last three months. On Friday, it was selling at Tk 72 per kilo. The price of imported garlic which was selling between Tk 130 and Tk 140 per kg rose to Tk 200, traders said. But the home grown garlic was selling at Tk 120 to Tk 140 per kg in the retail markets.Wholesaler Abdul Aziz said, imported garlic was selling at Tk 800 to Tk 825 per palla (5 kilograms) at Karwan Bazar and Shyambazar, which was Tk 550-Tk 600 about 10 days ago.Medium-quality garlic is being traded at US $ 1,400- $1,500 per tonne, while finer quality at $1,800-$2,000 per tonne, he said.The price of onion increased by Tk 5.0 per kg. Local varieties were sold at Tk 40 to Tk 45, while imported verities at Tk 30 to Tk 40 per kg.Ginger price rose to Tk 90-Tk 120 (imported) and Tk 140-Tk150 (local) per kg at retail from Tk 70-Tk 80 and Tk 110-Tk 120 a week ago. The price of chicken, both broiler and indigenous, decreased. Broiler was sold at Tk 160-Tk 165 per kg, which was Tk170- Tk 180 before Eid. The beef was sold at Tk 400-Tk 450, buffalo meat at Tk 400 and goat meat (khashi) at Tk 550-Tk 600 per kg on Friday.The egg (farm) was selling at Tk 35 per hali (four pieces), egg (local) at Tk 50 and egg (duck) at Tk 45 to Tk 48. Pigeon (per pair) was selling at Tk 180 to Tk 250 and four koil birds at Tk 200 only.Prices of indigenous fishes including hilsa, gulsha, pabda, shing, magur, shrimp, puti, batashi, kajoli, tengra, shoul, riverine rui and katla etc slightly decreased after Eid on Friday. Local variety of Cat fish (Shing) was selling at Tk 400- 550 per kg, barbel at Tk 450 to 600 per kg, butter fish at Tk 300 to 350, lobster at Tk 400 to 600 kg, shrimp (River) at Tk 350-550 kg, Puti at Tk 180 per kg, puti (live) at Tk 250 kg, cultivated koi at Tk 130 to 180 per kg and koi (river) at Tk 400, Fali Chanda (Rupchada) at Tk 950 kg, Chanda (small) at Tk 200 kg, walking fish (Shoal) at Tk 300 kg and Eel at Tk 300 to 600 kg, sheat (boal) at Tk 300 to 550 kg, Ek-thota (Kaitta fish) at Tk 350 to Tk 400, Baila at Tk 450 to 600 kg, coral fish at Tk 550 kg, river Pangas at Tk 350 kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 130 kg, Rajputi at Tk 300 kg, Tilapia at Tk 140 to Tk 200 kg, Ruhit at Tk 250 to Tk 380 kg, medium size carp (katol) at Tk 230 -360 per kg.Of vegetables, Teasle gourd was selling at Tk 30 per kg, potato at Tk 20 to 25 , tomato at Tk 100 to 110, brinjal at Tk25 to 40, green chilli at Tk 40 to 60, french at Tk 30 to 40, carrot at Tk 45 , bitter gourd at Tk 30 to Tk 35, cucumber at Tk 25 to 30, spone gourd at Tk 45 to 50, arum at 45 to 50, papaya at Tk 30, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 25 to 45 per piece, broccoli at 35 to 40, bottle gourd at Tk 30 to 40, ash gourd at Tk 15 to 25 piece, coriander leaves at Tk 250 kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 300 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 250 to 300 kg. Five liters of Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 485, Rupchanda (two litres) at Tk 188, and loose super palm oil at 78 per liter, molasses at Tk 70 to 120 and flattened rice at Tk 70 to 90, the red lentil at Tk 140 per kg, while the imported lentil at Tk 155 kg and mash at 130 per kg.
