Price of edible oil, onion upward

Edible oil and onion price showed upward trend while rice and fish price remained stable in the city’s kitchen markets at the weekend on Friday. On the other hand, vegetable price marked a fall in view of abundance of supply of essential commodities, giving relief to the consumers.
Five litres of Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk578 per litre and Teer brand at Tk 570, local onion at Tk46 to Tk48 per kilo, imported onion at Tk38 to Tk 42, imported garlic at Tk 85, local one at Tk 80, imported ginger at Tk 180 to 190, local produce at Tk 120 and lentil at Tk 115.
Coarse rice was selling at Tk 35 to 36 per kg, Pyjam at Tk 36 to Tk37, Nazishail brand at Tk 55, Minicate at Tk 52-54, Pillau rice (Badsha bhog) at Tk 80 to Tk100 and Kalogira at Tk 100 to Tk115 only.
Of the vegetables, bean was selling at Tk 40 per kg, brinjal at Tk 30 to Tk35, tomato at Tk 70, raw tomato at Tk 30 to Tk40, bitter gourd at Tk 30 to Tk35 per piece, cucumber at Tk 40 to 50 per kilo, okra at Tk 30 to 35, papaya at Tk 20, potato at Tk 26, carrot at Tk 40, french at Tk 40,
radish at Tk 15, parbal at Tk20 to 25, teasel gourd Tk 30 to 35, snake gourd at Tk 30 to 35, pumpkin (medium size) Tk 35 to 50 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 15 to 25, cabbage at Tk 20 to 25, bottle gourd at Tk 40 to 50 per kilo, ash gourd at Tk 25 to 35, coriander leaves at Tk 250 per kg, green chilli at Tk40 to 50, capsicum (red) at Tk450 and capsicum (green) at Tk 250 to 300 per kg.
Of fishes, scorpion and barbal were selling at Tk 600 to Tk800, lobster and prawn at Tk 700 to Tk 1000, ruhit at Tk 280 to 450, carp at Tk 230 to Tk 400, pangas at Tk 170 to 200, tilapia at Tk 180 to Tk 230, mola at Tk 250, climbing fish (Koi fish) at Tk 250 to 600, Lata fish at Tk 200 to Tk 300, Tatkini at Tk 230 to Tk 250, Sheat fish (Boal fish) at Tk 300 to Tk 500, fry fish at Tk 250, butter fish at Tk 800 to Tk 1,100. Marcel (one kind of sea fish) at Tk 250 to 270, Surma fish at Tk 280 to 340 and Mackerel at sTk 250 to 300 only. The price of dry fishes also increased by about Tk 30 to 50 per kg.
A medium size of local cock was selling at Tk 400 to 550 per piece and hen at Tk 300 to 340. The boiler chickens’ price stands at Tk 175 per kg, beef at Tk320 while red meat at Tk500. The egg (chicken) was selling at Tk 34 per hali (4 pieces) and egg (duck) at Tk38 to Tk 40.
It is alleged that the retailers charge extra amount by 20 to 30 percent to fix the price of an item. But Sukur Ali, a retailer trading at the Hatirpool market denied the accusation and said, “We fix the price taking weight loss, carrying cost and labour remuneration into account, and make no extra profit.”
