The supply of all kinds of vegetables in the city’s Subhanighat vegetable market has increased as vehicles including bus and truck are now running on the highways defying the nationwide nonstop hartal-blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Following the increase in supply, the prices of vegetables have come to the reach of Sylhet city people and the farmers, traders and wholesalers here have got relief from tension over incurring huge losses, sources concerned said.
Babul, a vegetables trader of Subhanighat vegetable market, told that the farmers from different areas of Rajshahi district are now able to supply their products as the vehicles running normal in the district.
Though the vegetables price was very high during the first phase of the nonstop hartal-blockade in the city, but now the price is coming normal, he added.
Some wholesale businessmen expressing optimism said that if the supplies of vegetables remain available, the price would under control in the markets of both the city and the suburbs.
After visiting different markets of Bandarbazar and Subhanighat vegetable market the city our correspondent found that potato, eggplant, cauliflower and bean are being sold at Tk 8 to 10 per kg, tomatoes at Tk 10, green peas at Tk 25, carrot at Tk 12, ladies finger at Tk 50, korla at Tk 70 to 80, peppers at Tk 28 to 30, onion Tk 35 to 40 per kg, ginger Tk 60 and garlic at Tk 50 per kg.
Visiting different markets of Sylhet city our correspondent found that potato, eggplant, cauliflower and bean are being sold Tk 8 to 10 per kg, tomatoes at Tk 10, carrot at Tk 10 to 12, ladies finger at Tk 50, korla at Tk 70 to 80, chilli at Tk 28 to 30, onion at Tk 35 to 40, ginger at Tk 60 and garlic at Tk 50 per kg.
On the other hand, Fish market is getting normal. Rui is being sold at Tk 150 to 180 per kg, silver carp at Tk 140 to 150, telapia and other fishes at Tk 110 to 140, Katla at Tk 320, shrimp a Tk 400 to 600, Hilsa at Tk 650 and pabda is being sold at Tk 1000 per kg.
Beef is being sold Tk 300 to 340 per kg while broiler chickens at Tk 135 per kg, local chicken at Tk 280 and cock hen are being sold at Tk 210 per kg. Chicken egg (white) is being sold Tk 27 hali (four pieces) while the red eggs are at Tk 28.
