Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

 Stock markets closed on Monday with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were food and allied, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, insurance and tannery industries. A total of 180 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 39.40 points down at 5,417.42. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 11.96 points down at 1,257.46 and with 11.78 points down at 2011.40.
The daily trade fell to 11.36 crore shares on Monday from Sunday’s 11.96 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 431.66 crore from Taka 445.96 crore of the previous session.
At the DSE, out of the day’s 337 securities, prices of 70 securities closed higher against 224 losing issues. The major gaining issues were Queen South, Legacy Foot, Trust Bank, Dhaka Insurance and Miracle Industries. The major losing companies were SHYAMPSUG, Imam Button, Zeal Bangla, Takaful Insurance and Samata Leather.
INTRACO topped the turnover list followed by Al Arafah Bank, Brac Bank, UPGDCL and Miracle Industries. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 90.62 points down at 16,742.04.
