Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

Stocks witnessed downward trend on Wednesday due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities despite higher transactions. The falling major sectors were tannery industries, food and allied and ceramics. A total of 132 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 16.16 points down at 5,603.26. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 6.49 points down at 1,967.81 and with 4.83 points down at 1,270.09.
The day’s trade value increased to Taka 633.38 crore from Tuesday’s 611.71 crore shares and the daily trade at DSE rose to 18.48 crore shares from 17.13 crore shares.
At DSE, out of the day’s 334 securities, prices of 111 securities closed higher against 182 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Prime Tex, NHFIL, EBL1STMF, IPDC and HRTEX while the major losing companies were Samata Leather, Shyampur Sugar, Meghan Pet, Monno Ceramics and Zeal Bangla.
UPGDCL topped the turnover list followed by IPDC, Baraka Power, Beximco and KPCL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 70.99 points down at 17,236.21. At CSE, 244 issues were traded. Of those, 88 closed higher and 134 closed lower when 1.18 crore shares worth Taka 31.92 crore changed hands.
