Stock markets closed on Tuesday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities. The falling major sectors were food and allied, engineering and financial institutions. A total of 146 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 12.68 points down at 5,335.38. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 2.03 points down at 1,266.66 and with 10.11 points down at 1,902.94.
The daily trade fell to 16.28 crore shares from Monday’s 19.41 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 716.61 crore from Taka 873.12 crore of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 336 securities, prices of 113 securities closed higher against 185 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were GHCL, ITC, DSSL, Standard Insurance and Padma Life while the major losing companies were Meghna Condensed Milk, Meghna Pet, Shyampur Sugar, BD Auto Cars and BD Finance. BBS Cables topped the turnover list followed by NAHEEACP, KDSALTD, Peninsula and BPML.
