Stock markets plunged further on Monday due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities despite higher transactions.
The falling major sectors were textile, ceramics and food and allied. A total of 222 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 67.79 points down at 5,705.57. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 13.03 points down at 1,350.76 and with 18.73 points down at 2,107.44.
The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 298.25 crore from Sunday’s Taka 236.74 crore and the daily trade rose to 8.16 crore shares from 6.45 crore shares of the previous session.
