Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

Stock markets plunged further on Monday due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities with lower transactions.
The falling major sectors were financial institutions and insurance. A total of 199 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 57.55 points down at 5,774.57. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 12.66 points down at 1,348.69 and with 14.95 points down at 2,127.09.
The day’s trade value at DSE declined to Taka 350.63 crore from Sunday’s Taka 384.04 crore and the daily trade fell to 7.89 crore shares from 8.42 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 334 securities, prices of 38 securities closed higher against 249 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Atlas Bangla, Fine Foods, ACI, IPDC and Pioneer Insurance. The major losing companies were GSP Finance, Asian Insurance, Eastern Insurance, Sonar Bangla Insurance and Islamic Finance.
Olympic topped the turnover list followed by Ifad Autos, Square Pharma, Unique Hotel and National Tubes. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 163.72 points down at 17,844.95.
At CSE, a total of 222 issues were traded. Of those, 34 closed higher and 161 closed lower when 58.19 lakh shares worth Taka 1.49 crore changed hands.
