Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

Stock markets plunged further on Tuesday due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities. All the indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges closed in red despite higher transactions.
The falling major sectors included engineering, insurance and tannery industries. A total of 149 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The border DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 18.45 points down at 5511.06. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 1.53 points down at 1,274.43 and with 9.42 points down at 2026.19.
The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 774.03 crore from Monday’s Taka 632.47 crore and the daily trade rose to 23.91 crore shares from 21.08 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 324 securities, prices of 114 securities closed higher against 174 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were DBH1STMF, Intech Online, Fareast Finance, Fu Wang Ceramic and FASFIN. The major losing companies were WMSHIPYARD, Shurwid, Eastland, Samata Leather and SEMLIBBLSF.
Doreen Power topped the turnover list followed by Lanka Bangla Finance, BD Finance, Brac Bank and Premier Leasing.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 72.07 points down at 17087.97.
At CSE, 242 issues were traded. Of those, 88 closed higher and 128 closed lower when 1.56 crore shares worth Taka 41.13 crore changed hands.
