Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

Stock markets plunged further on Wednesday due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities. All the indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges closed in red though at lower rate than the previous sessions.
Among the falling major sectors were insurance, pharmaceutical and chemical, mutual fund and food and allied when 151 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of DSE finished the session 15.48 points down at 5,597.22. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES followed it by 4.57 down at 2021.26 and 0.16 at 1305.79 respectively.
Similarly, the prime CASPI index at CSE was 20.91 points down at 17,354.82. Out of 328 traded issues, 177 incurred loss when only 96 closed with some gains. Most of the losing issues were from large-cap securities. The mutual funds also experienced a bad day, with 13 funds ending lower against only five gaining scrips.
The day’s trade value at DSE declined to Taka 961.97 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 1152.44 crore on selling of large-cap securities and the daily trade also fall to 26.75 crore shares from 31.22 crore of the previous session.
At CSE, 1.82 crore shares of Taka 54.17 crore changed hands when 80 issues gained and 145 incurred loss among the day’s 254 traded issues.
The major gaining issues were ICB First NRB, PDL, ICB AMCL Second, Emerald Oil and Ifad Autos. The major losing companies were Central Insurance, Imam Button, SEML Lecture Equity, Padma Life and Gemini Sea.
