Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Stocks saw downward trend on Wednesday as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found falling trend due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were insurance and textile. A total of 142 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 25.63 points down at 5,822.19. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 1.85 points down at 1,373.26 and with 12.23 points down at 2,143.63.
The daily trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 405.73 crore shares from Tuesday’s Taka 426.91 crore. But the day’s trade at DSE increased to 11.09 crore share from 9.99 crore share of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 335 securities, prices of 115 securities closed higher against 175 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Peninsula Chittagong, Central Insurance, RECKITTBEN, HRTEX and PTL. The major losing companies were Prime Insurance, Dulamia Cotton, Nitol Insurance, Islamic Insurance and SAVAREFR.
BRAC Bank topped the turnover list followed by Al Arafah Islami Bank, Monno Ceramics, Beximco Pharma and Mercantile Bank.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 73.54 points down at 17,992.92.
At CSE, 225 issues were traded. Of those, 82 closed higher and 108 closed lower when 80.70 lakh shares worth Taka 33.56 crore changed hands.
