Stock markets plunged on Wednesday with falling trends of all major indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges due to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were textile, insurance and engineering. A total of 177 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 30.48 points down at 6,098.33. The Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 10.93 points down at 2,236.15. But, the blue-chip DS30 closed the day with 2.52 points up at 1,392.44.
The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 391.55 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 388.70 crore. The daily trade fell to 9.51 crore shares from 11.34 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 334 securities, prices of 89 securities closed higher against 214 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Shepherd, SEMLIBBLSF, CVOPRL, ICBSONALI1 and Eastern Insurance. The major losing companies were AIL, Islami Insurance, Jute Spinning, National Tubes and Naheea Capital.
Square Pharma topped the turnover list followed by DSSL, GP, Ifad Autos and Shepherd.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 54.47 points down at 18,831.03.
At CSE, 229 issues were traded. Of those, 59 closed higher and 147 closed lower when 85 lakh shares worth Taka 27.24 crore were changed hands.
