Stock markets closed on Monday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were bank, engineering, textile and food and allied. A total of 143 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 21.40 points down at 5,391.89. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 5.63 points down at 1,262.68 and with 16.30 points down at 1990.79.
The daily trade fell to 10.98 crore shares from Sunday’s 13.48 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 438.42 crore from Taka 561.81 crore of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 332 securities, prices of 100 securities closed higher against 179 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Berger PBL, Queen South, Legacy Foot, Advent and Shepherd while the major losing companies were Dhaka Bank, First Security Bank, ECABLES, Modern Dying and Shyampur Sugar.
Berger PBL topped the turnover list followed by INTRACO, BSRM Limited, Al Arafah Bank and UPDGCL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 47.74 points down at 16,640.28.
