Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Stock markets plunged on Monday due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities. All the indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges closed in red though at lower rate than the previous sessions.
The broader index DSEX of DSE finished the session 14.87 points down at 5620.25. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES followed it by 7.67 down at 2029.68 and 4.61 at 1307.46 respectively.
Similarly, the prime CASPI index at CSE was 43.16 points down at 17,390.08.
Out of 327 traded issues, 175 incurred loss when only 102 closed with some gains. Most of the losing issues were from large-cap securities. The mutual funds also experienced a bad day, with 10 funds ending lower against only six gaining scrips.
The day’s trade value at DSE declined to Taka 1020.29 crore from Sunday’s Taka 1391.19 crore on selling of large-cap securities and the daily trade also fall to 27.34 crore shares from 37.50 crore shares of the previous session.
At CSE, 1.87 crore shares of Taka 59.48 crore changed hands when 69 issues gained and 151 incurred loss among the day’s 258 traded issues.
The major gaining issues were Premier Leasing, Golden Harvest, Eastland Insurance, Bay Leasing and BD Finance. The major losing companies were Zeal Bangla, Samata Leather, Singer BD, Imam Button and Central PHL.
Lanka Bangla Finance topped the turnover leaders followed by Islami Bank, Titas Gas, Active Fine and Baraka Power.
