‘Prevent food adulteration for healthier nation’

Speakers at a pre-rally discussion have called for launching social movement through creating awareness among the common people for preventing food adulteration to save human lives in building a healthier nation.
The district administration brought out the rally to formally launch anti-adulteration campaign in the sub-Himalayan Panchagarh district town on Saturday to prevent food adulteration through conducting frequent anti-adulteration drives.
Government officials, public representatives, representatives of different socio- cultural, political and professional organisations, NGOs, women and human rights activists, adolescents, civil society members, teachers, students and elite participated.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salah Uddin of Panchagarh led the rally, addressed the discussion and formally launched the anti-adulteration campaign in the district as the chief guest.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-General) of Panchagarh Ahmed Kabir, ADC (Revenue) Shamsul Azam, Sadar upazila chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Maksuda Begum Siddika attended and addressed as special guests.
The speakers expressed concern on availability of adulterated and chemical poison-mixed baby foods, vegetables, fish, meat, fruits, hotel and packed foods, adulterated and date expired lifesaving medicines and other foodstuffs in the local markets.
The extent of hepatitis, kidney and lever diseases, heart ailments and cardiac failures, paralysis, cancer, pancreas ailments and other diseases have been increasing creating a threat to public health even after many years of consuming adulterated foods, they said.
