‘Prevent child malnutrition thru’ enriching family foods’

Speakers at a discussion meeting have stressed for creating adequate awareness among the rural parents to enrich family foods through selecting available nutritious foodstuffs for preventing child malnutrition.
Mithapukur upazila health administration jointly with BRAC organised the day-long discussion on ‘Prevention of child malnutrition through enriching family foods’ at Begum Rokeya auditorium in Mithapukur upazila town.
With Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer Dr Shafikul Islam in the chair, Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Harunur Rashid attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Upazila Family Planning Officer AKM Rezaul Karim, Residential Medical Officer of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex Dr Shariful Islam and President of Mithapukur Press Club Abul Hashem Mandal addressed as special guests.
Upazila Manager of BRAC Mokhlesur Rahman delivered welcome speech narrating importance of selecting the available nutritional foodstuffs by the rural people in enriching their family foods to prevent malnutrition of the children.
Manager of Advocacy for Social Change of BRAC Preeti Ranjan Dutta presented the keynote paper narrating complications of child malnutrition and ways for preventing their malnutrition through enriching family foods with available nutritional foodstuffs.
Highlighting objectives of the meeting, the speakers stressed for creating awareness among rural people on proper selection of nutritious foodstuffs, including vegetables, to overcome deficiency of protein, vitamins, iodine, iron and minerals for the children.
They also narrated the severe complications of child malnutrition and said the rate of night blindness, infant and child mortalities could be reduced further through preventing deficiency of protein, vitamins, iodine, iron, mineral among the babies and children.
In his speech, the chief guest said many babies, children, mothers, pregnant women and adolescents are suffering from malnutrition for lack of adequate awareness, knowledge and inappropriate food habits that cause subsequent complications.
