Pressure of patients increased at BSMMU

The number of patients has increased recently at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital though its treatment facilities did not increase.
 “Day by day the number of patients is increasing. It is a pressure on us. But the hospital authority may not be able to bear such pressure for long,” said Vice-Chancelor of BSMMU, Professor Dr. Kamrul Hasan Khan to a group of journalists yesterday.
According to the official data of BSMMU,
physicians attend on average 300 patients per hour at outdoor.
 “As many as 1,72,967 patients of different diseases have taken treatment at outdoor on 24 working days in August,” said Dr. Kamrul Hasan Khan.
New patients outnumber the old patients, the data shows.
It shows that 95,478 new patients have been given treatment at outdoor in the morning shift and 16,243 new patients availed specialized treatment in the evening shift.
Contrarily, the number of old patients was 56,896 in the morning and 4,350 in the evening shift.
The doctors, nurses and officials of the university are trying their best to render treatment to the patients so far.
Apart from this, the specialized doctors have given treatment to 4,777 patients free of cost at on August 15.
