Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Justice Nizamul Huq has said that they have been working relentlessly to restore the clean image in the field of journalism for overall development of the society.
“We are dead against all sorts of fraudulence, cheating to the public and falsehood in the name of journalism,” he categorically said while addressing a training program for journalists in Rajshahi on Tuesday.
The BPC hosted the workshop titled “Bangladesh Press Council Law and Code of Conduct and Right to Information” at the conference hall of Rajshahi Circuit House. In association with Rajshahi district administration the workshop was attended by journalists from different print and electronic media, reports BSS.
Elaborating the aims and objectives of the BPC along with its activities Justice Nizamul Huq said, there is no room of indiscipline in journalism. As a whole, objective and genuine journalism is very much important for taking the country’s development process forward successfully.
BPC Secretary Shah Alam, Director of the District Information Office Farhad Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Saleh Ashraful Alam and Additional District Magistrate Sabiha Sultana also spoke.
Justice Nizamul Huq said journalism is only for the journalists, adding that there is a need of a controlling system against the unethical tactics in terms of online journalism.
“Underground media both print and online are our misfortunes,” he lamented. He, however, said dignity of the noble profession must be protected.
He added that they are working to make the BPC time-fitting so that it can bring welfare for the working journalists.
Justice Nizamul Huque (Nasim) said there are five good governance tools related to National Integrality Strategy (NIS), Right to Information (RTI), Citizen Charter, Grievance Redress System (GRS) and Annual Performance Agreement (APA).
He urged the attending journalists to publish reports on the issues so that the people can derive total benefits of those properly.
