While visiting the Shah Noori High School male centre in Moghbazar area, its assistant presiding officer Ruhul Kuddus informed that a group of supporters of mayor candidate Annisul Huq and supporters of a ruling party supported local councillor candidate came to the centre and forcefully took away some of the ballot papers.He also said that, the police initially picked up the miscreants, but later released them.An almost identical allegation was made by presiding officer of Bara Moghbazar primary school centre (male) Raihan Alam. “A group of supporters of mayor candidate Annisul Huq entered the centre at about 11.45 pm and started sealing a huge number of ballots,” he told UNB. “I had to cancel about 80 ballots.” He also alleged that the on-duty police was informed of the matter, but they did not arrest anybody. “Police only took those people away and then released them,” he said. The sub-inspector of Ramna police station Sylenda Saha, a member of the on-duty force who spoke to UNB, denied any knowledge of any such incident. There was no polling agent of BNP-baked mayor candidate Tabith Awal at the centre, or indeed any other mayor candidate except Annisul Huq. Only some agents of councillor-aspirants were found at the two voting centres. The presiding officers of the two centres located side by side, said that about 20 percent votes had been cast at their centres. At about 12 noon, the local people informed that an incident of chase and counter chase took place between the supports of a ruling party baked councillor candidate and his rival at about 11:30. Police picked up two people from the spot, said the local people. But the on duty police denied any arrest.Visiting Nakhalpara Primary School Centre at about 11 am, UNB learned from the presiding officer that of 2083 voters in the male section, 15 percent votes had been cast.He also said, voting was peaceful. This was one of the few centres where UNB found polling agents for both Annisul Huq and Tabith Awal, and both said the situation was peaceful.At about 11:45 am, while visiting the Botomly Home High School centre at Tejgaon, the voter turnout was found to be very poor. The PO informed that his centre had a total of 2367 voters, of which just 500 had been cast.No agent of mayor candidate Tabith Awak was found to be on duty at any of the 7 booths at the centre. However, agent of Annisul Huq and some councilor-candidates were on duty.Almost the exact same scenario was repeated at the Tejgaon Government High School centre in Farmgate. The PO informed that the vote casting was peaceful although turnout was relatively poor.No agent of Tabith Awal was found there. An assistant presiding officer told UNB that they were present earlier, before being ordered to leave.
