EC formation: President`s talks with JaPa today

President Abdul Hamid will hold talks with Jatiya Party (JaPa) on Tuesday over the formation of the new Election Commission.
“Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad will lead an 18-member delegation in tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) discussion with Honourable President to be held at Bangabhaban’s Darbar Hall at 3 pm,” President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB on Monday evening. Ruhul Amin Howlader, Anisul Islam Mahmud, MA Sattar, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, Syed Abu Hossain Babla,
Fakhrul Imam, Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Salma Islam, Delwar Hossain, SM Faisal Chisty,
ATU Taj Rahman, Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Tajul Islam Chowdhury and Khaled Akhter.
President Abdul Hamid initiated the formal talks with political parties over the EC formation with holding discussions with BNP on Sunday.
He took the dialogue initiative as the tenure of the current Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad-led EC expires in February next. The President Office on December 12 sent letters to five political parties in this regard.
The President is also scheduled to hold talks with Liberal Democratic Party and Krishak Sramik Janata League on December 21 at 3 pm and 4:3 pm respectively while with Jatiya Samajtantrik Party (Inu) at 3 pm on December 22. Meanwhile, the President’s press secretary said the meeting with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal will be rescheduled following a request from the party as its President Hasanul Haq Inu, also Information Minister, will stay abroad at that time on an official visit. “The fresh date for discussion with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal will be
fixed soon,” Joynal added. According to a source at the presidential palace, letters will be sent to some other political parties this week to hold discussions with them over the EC formation. Now, there are 40 registered political parties in the country.
