President M Abdul Hamid on Tuesday witnessed the House proceedings and lively discussion sitting on the President Box in the parliament, on the concluding day of the New Year’s maiden session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
The President also former speaker of the parliament , enjoyed the pulsating discussion on “Thanksgiving Motion on President Address” by both from the treasury and opposition benches members along with the Bangabhaban officials, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
The session is also the 11th session of the current Jatiya Sangsad.
On December 30, the Head Of State convened the first parliament session of 2021 exercising the power bestowed upon him as per article 72 (1) of the constitution.
According to the constitution, the president delivered his speech in the first session of the New Year.
The successes and future plans, including the development activities of the Awami League government, got priority in his address.
The duration of the first session of the year is usually longer. A long discussion is usually held on the “thanksgiving motion on the president’s address”.
But due to COVID-19 pandemic , the session was held in a limited scale maintaining health safety guidelines and other rules.
Besides, restriction was imposed about the entry of media persons owing to ongoing health risky situation.
A spokesman of the parliament secretariat said the eleventh session lasted for 12 working days.
In addition to the legislative functions, some 46 notices under the rules of procedure 71 were found in this session.
A total of 84 questions were found for the Prime Minister’s question and answer session and of which she answered 28 queries.
Meanwhile, a total of 1689 questions from different ministries were raised for the ministers to answer. They answered about 720 questions.
The head of the state reached the Parliament Bhaban at about 12 noon. He stayed and enjoyed the parliament proceedings for several hours .
The President also visited the South Plaza of the JS Complex. Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, lawmaker Atiur Rahman Atik and secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban, among others, accompanied the President during the visit.
