President Abdul Hamid on Sunday visited St. Martin’s island, the country’s only coral atoll in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal about nine kilometers south of the tip of Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf peninsula.
On his arrival on board a chopper at the tiny island of only eight square kilometers area, the President was received by Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib. The President enjoyed the scenic view of the coral island, one of the major exciting tourist spots of the country.
During his around three-hour stay at the island, the President was briefed by the navy officials about various features of the island.
Later, the President went to Inani of the Cox’s Bazar district to enjoy the spectacular view of the Bay of Bengal from the Inani beach, President’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS here from Inani over telephone.
On his arrival at Inani, the President was received by Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan. The president will return today.
Earlier on his way to St Martin’s Island, the President made a stop over at the Zahurul Haque Base of Bangladesh Air Force in Chittagong.
The President is scheduled to visit Ramu upazila today to see the Buddhist temples there before departing for Dhaka.
