President Abdul Hamid on Friday urged professional and area-based organisations to play a role for social reforms and development of their respective regions as it is not possible for the government alone to ensure overall advancement.
“As a developing country, our government has many limitations and it is not possible for the government alone to ensure overall development of the country. For the reason, area and profession-based organisations can play an important role for development of their respective areas,” he said.
The President was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of “Noakhali Utsob-2015” (Festival) at Suhrawardy Udyan here.
“A mother is dear to her children. Similarly the birthplace, where someone was born and brought up, is very precious to him or her. So, everyone must have extra responsibility for that place,” he added.
“The work, which is impossible to do unilaterally, can be done properly with the efforts of all. For the reason, I think united endeavours are very important and I urge all to do something good for their respective areas,” the President said.
Pointing to many famous industrialists who were present at the opening session of the festival, Abdul Hamid said, “If you set up an industrial unit in your respective areas, Noakhali will be turned into an industrial city. You can build a special economic zone in Noakhali through joint efforts. I firmly believe the government would extend cooperation in this regard.”
He said there is scope to transform Noakhali into an attractive tourist spot by utilizing the scenic beauty and geographical location of Nijhum Dwip (island) and urged entrepreneurs to come forward to take this opportunity.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, MP, Noakhali Zila Samity general secretary Dr Mohammad Shamsul Haque and Noakhali Zila Samity president Sahab Uddin, among others, spoke on the occasion.
