President urges people to remain alert on religious misinterpretation

President M Abdul Hamid on Monday urged the people of all religions to remain alert about misinterpretation of religion that can create unrest in the society.
“The prime object of all religions is to ensure human welfare . . . remain alert so that none
can create any unrest in the society through misinterpretation of religion,” he said this while exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community at a reception at Bangabhaban marking the Janmashtami.
Noting that Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, the President also called for fostering the existing brotherly and friendly relations together to gear up national progress. President Hamid categorically said all have to ensure that no vested quarter can create any discrimination amongst us using religious sentiment. Religious belief, he said, is for each individual but country is for all and added that everyone should put highest priority to the national development issue.
“There is no alternative to the combined efforts irrespective of religions, castes and creeds to ensure development of the country and its people,” he added.
Bengali nation is the unison of all religions’ including Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and
Christians, the President said. “We have to uphold image of our tradition through collective efforts,” he added. Greeting the people of Hindu community on the occasion, he said the prime ideal of Sri Krishna was to build real love and harmony among the people removing all sorts of injustice, repression, torture and conflict from the society. The President mentioned that Sri Krishna emerged as social reformer to thwart evil forces and to protect religion and good people in the society.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman and secretaries concerned accompanied the President during the reception.
Besides, Hindu religious personalities, leaders of Hindu Religion Welfare Trust, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Dhaka City Puja Parishad, Bangladesh Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikya Parishad and people from various professions of the community joined the reception.
