President Abdul Hamid on Thursday urged the non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs), irrespective of all opinions, to live abroad peacefully through tolerating differences of opinion. The President was addressing at a reception accorded to him by Kishorganj District Association, USA at Gulshan Terrace near Jackson Heights, the NRB dense area in New York. President Hamid said to show tolerance to other opinions is a prerequisite for advancement of democracy. “The political culture in Kishorganj district is different from other parts of the country as political violence never occurred in the district,” the President said.
He said he always did politics in Kishorganj district by keeping good relations with opposition. “In Kishorganj, there are family to family relations among all political parties,” he said. The President thanked the Kishorganj district association in USA for giving him the reception. “I became President for most of the contribution from the Kishorganj inhabitants,” he said. “I have observed people, irrespective of all parties in Kishorganj, had cherished when I became the President. It is a great achievement of mine.” he said.
The President sought best wishes from the NRBs, originated from Kishorganj district, so that he can perform his duty properly with dignity as the President.
