President M Abdul Hamid urged the members of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to put continuous efforts to ensure the overall social-economic development of the country.
The President came up with the call on Monday as a delegation led by BDRCS Chairperson Hafiz Ahmed Mazumder submitted its Annual Report-2019 to him at Bangabhaban here.
The head of the state also asked the BDRCS authority to ensure utmost accountability and transparency in their overall activities, assuring them of providing all necessary cooperation in days to come, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told reporters after the meeting. Terming the Red Crescent very well-known name to all, he mentioned that it plays very effective role in different activities, especially post-disaster situation in Bangladesh.
The delegation informed the President about their overall activities in Bangladesh in recent time, specially providing assistance to the Rohingyas as different donor agencies donated about Taka 200 crore to their fund for helping forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals earlier taken shelter in Bangladesh territory. The President was also apprised of their various activities including, the training of the youths and blood collection.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of Sylhet Medical University (SMU) Dr Morshed Ahmed Chowdhury this evening paid a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here.
During the meeting, the President was apprised of overall activities, including infrastructural development and implementation of different projects of the university.
Highly appreciating of setting up this medical university in Sylhet, Abdul Hamid said this initiative of the incumbent government is epoch-making step to develop the country’s medical education and treatment as well.
Once Sylhet Medical University goes on full functioning, it would help ensure qualitative changes in overall treatment facilities and medical education in the region, President Hamid hoped.
Secretaries concerned to the President were also present on the occasion.
