President urges all to uphold communal harmony for progress

President Abdul Hamid has urged all to play a due role from their respective positions in the national development upholding the spirit of communal harmony and heritage.
“Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony and people of all religions are practicing their respective religious rite and social programmes peacefully and amid fanfare,” said the President while speaking during a reception on the occasion of Durga Puja at Bangabhaban on Thursday.
President Abdul Hamid hosted the reception to the members of Hindu community on the occasion of Saradiya Durga Puja.
The President exchanged greetings with the invited guests.
President Hamid said Durga Puja is the main religious festival of the Hindu community and they have been celebrating the puja amid massive festivity and enthusiasm from time immemorial.
Durga Puja and other festivals play an important role in creating fraternity and unity among the people, he added.
He said the sense of unity and secularism is the long practicing characteristics of the people of this country and the Bengali nation is the glorious part of the non-communalism and enlightened heritage.
The President said people’s welfare is the main message of all religions and hoped that Durga Puja would bring cordiality and harmony for all irrespective of religion, caste and creed.
India High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran and Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Hari Kumar Shrestha were present on the occasion.
