President thanks Bhutan for passage of bill on BBIN MVA

President Abdul Hamid has congratulated Bhutan on passage of the bill at National Assembly on BBIN MVA (Motor Vehicle Agreement) and expressed the hope that it would play a positive role for economic development through expanding regional cooperation. The President said this when Speaker of the National Assembly Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo made a call on him here on Saturday. President Hamid stressed the need for increasing mutual communication among members of parliament of the two countries. During the meeting, the Bhutanese assembly speaker expressed deep shock at the casualties in the terrorist attack in Dhaka’s Gulshan area and appreciated the government for taking quick steps to tackle the situation. Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo apprised the President of activities of the National Assembly. He lauded Bangladesh for its achievement in socioeconomic areas, especially in food production and increasing the forex reserves. He thanked the Bangladesh government for providing Bhutanese students scope to study in Bangladesh. Later, Chairperson of National Council of Bhutan Dr Sonam Kinga called on the President said Bangladesh and Bhutan maintain same attitude on different regional and international issues. During the meeting, the President said both Bangladesh and Bhutan extend cooperation to each other on different regional and internal issues. He thanked Bhutan for extending cooperation to Bangladesh in Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) elections.
