President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday urged Danish entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh in a greater way as an investment-friendly climate is prevailing in the country.
The President made the call when newly appointed Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh Mikael Hemniti Winther presented his credentials to him at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, President Hamid expressed gratitude for the valuable moral and diplomatic support that the people of Denmark extended during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.
President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
President Hamid expressed satisfaction over the existing relations between Bangladesh and Denmark, and hoped that the relations will be strengthened and consolidated further during the envoy’s tenure.
He deeply appreciated the continued Danish development assistance to Bangladesh since independence.
Ambassador Winther apprised President Hamid of his intention to continue to build on Denmark’s longstanding relationship with Bangladesh through partnerships on development, foreign policy and trade.
Green growth solutions were highlighted as an area of mutual interest, said a Danish Embassy press release.
The diplomat recalled how the friendship between the countries started soon after Bangladesh’s independence and has grown significantly ever since.
“I’m looking forward to deepening the bond of friendship between our nations during my stay in Bangladesh. Along with strengthening the existing cooperation, I’ll be exploring how we can help each other address key challenges that we face in today’s globalised world,” he said following the ceremony.
Winther sought cooperation from the President in discharging his assignment in Bangladesh.
Earlier, newly appointed High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Bangladesh Hajah Masurai binti Haji Masri presented her credentials to the President.
During the meeting, President Hamid hoped that the existing relations between Bangladesh and Brunei Darussalam will be expanded further casting a positive impact on various sectors, including trade and investment.
He emphasised high-level visits between the two countries in this regard, and said Brunei may import goods like leather, jute goods, RMGs and pharmaceuticals from Bangladesh.
Masri hoped that the relations between the two countries will increase gradually during her tenure here.
Earlier on their arrival at Bangabhaban, the new envoys were given guard of honour separately by a contingent of the President’s Guard Regiment. Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
