President, PM wish success of Nat’l Sanitation Month

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed the hope that the observance of ‘National Sanitation Month-October 2015’ and ‘Global Handwashing Day 2015’ will help create awareness and improve sanitation system in the country.
In separate messages, they wished all programmes of the sanitation month and handwashing day a success.
The ministry for local government and rural development observes the month and the day to create awareness about sanitation and hygiene among the people.
The President said in his message said the main objective of observing national sanitation month is to create awareness among the people about sanitation and health.
Bangladesh has achieved commendable success in attaining Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), he said and urged all related to sanitation system across the country to be more mindful to sustain this success.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the issue of sanitation has turned into a social movement in the country because of timely steps taken by the government.
She called upon all concerned, including non-government organizations, donor agencies and media to come forward spontaneously to expedite this movement.
The Prime Minister said her government has taken and implemented multifarious activities for the development of public health along with ensuring sanitation facilities.
Realistic strategy papers and policies have been prepared to make sanitation programmes completely successful, she said.
The incidence of diseases relation to unsafe water drinking and weak sanitation and child mortality rate declined remarkably because of the government’s continuous awareness building activities, she added.
