President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday expressed the hope that the observance of ‘National Sanitation Month 2014’ and ‘Global Hand washing Day 2014’ will help create awareness and improve sanitation system in the country.
In separate messages, they wished all programmes of the sanitation month and hand washing day a success.
The ministry for local government and rural development is observing the month and the day to create awareness about sanitation and hygiene among the people.
The President in his message stressed the need for a clear idea about sanitation and said the families, public representatives and civil society members have an important role to play in creating awareness in this regard.
He called for continued efforts by government and non-government organizations, educational institutions, development agencies, mass media and cultural bodies in creating awareness about sanitation.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government is pledge-bound to ensure sanitation facilities for the people.
She said the government has prepared realistic strategy papers and policies at the national level to make sanitation programmes completely successful, which has been appreciated in the international arena.
“As a result of our timely steps, sanitation campaign has now turned into a social movement,” the Prime Minister added.
She urged all concerned, including non-government organizations, donors and mass media to come forward along with the government to expedite this movement.
