President, PM stress family farming for food security

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday issued separate messages on the occasion of World Food Day-2014.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh due to its natural characteristic is an agricultural country and large segment of its people is directly and indirectly depended on agriculture.
Abdul Hamid also termed the theme of World Food Day “Family Farming: Feeding the world, caring for the earth” as time befitting and realistic.
He said family farming plays an important role in boosting production through maintaining environmental equilibrium.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also termed the theme of the World Food Day as highly time be-fitting. She said endeavor of boosting food production is continuing in accordance with increase of population in all the countries across the globe. But, food safety has to be established keeping the natural environment and biodiversity unchanged, added the prime minister.
Sheikh Hasina emphasized ensuring the participation of all family members to meet the demand of family nutrition.
She mentioned that the Awami League, whenever it came to power, took agriculture friendly policies and implemented those successfully that helped to increase food and agriculture production.
Referring to the stable food price in the country while the international market is volatile, the Prime Minister said: “We’ve taken initiative to ensure food safety through establishing comprehensive agriculture initiatives and modern market management for the development of rural people.”
She urged all the citizens of the country to work in combines for ensuring food security through encouraging family farming.
