President M Abdul Hamid on Sunday mourned the death of Jatiya Party Chairman and former President H M Ershad.
In a condolence message, the head of the state expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the opposition leader in the parliament.
President Hamid prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Ershad, who had been suffering from multiple diseases, including old-aged complications with lung and kidney problems, breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the city this morning.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled the constructive role of Ershad in parliament as the opposition leader.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Ershad, also a former president, died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) here this morning.
Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
Dr Chaudhury, in a condolence message, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Ershad and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
In a another message, Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Miah and chief whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury also expressed shock at his death.
Ershad, also a former president, breathed his last today at 7.45 am at the intensive care unit of the facility where he was kept on life support for the last nine days when he was exposed to gradual organ failures.
