President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday greeted members of Bangladesh Police on the occasion of Police Week-2014.
In separate messages on the eve of the occasion, they wished success of the Police Week.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid recalled with profound respect members of police who embraced martyrdom during the Liberation War.
He said the role of police in a developing country like Bangladesh is very important for continuation of development.
He appreciated the success of police in resisting militancy and terrorism in the past years and preventing violence and maintaining discipline and public security in the recent times.
Many members of police sacrificed their lives and many others were crippled in the course of protecting public property and democracy, he said and added that the nation would remember with respect their heroic contributions.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, recalled that members of police had first built resistance in Rajarbagh at the beginning of the Liberation War in response to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
She paid tributes to members of police who made supreme sacrifices for the motherland.
