President, PM greet members of Scouts on Scouts Day

The Bangladesh Scouts Day will be observed today in the country with the theme ‘Protekkey Amra Porer Torey’.
 President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday issued separate messages on the eve of the day greeting all members of Scouts.
In his message, the President said Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman restructured various organizations of the country to reach all the benefits of independence achieved in exchange of the sacrifices of 30 lakh martyrs in the great war of liberation to the countrymen.
With the sincere desire of Bangabandhu, a new journey of scouting was started in the country on April 8 in 1972 and on the same year, the Presidential Ordinance was issued giving the state recognition to scouting, the head of the state said.
Scouting plays a unique role in helping children, adolescents and young people develop a healthy body, a beautiful mind, a disciplined life, he added, reports BSS.
Its importance as co-educational activities alongside institutional education is immense, Hamid said, adding that Bangladesh Scouts is making a positive contribution to develop the children, adolescents and youth of the country as honest, virtuous, capable and self-reliant citizens by training them in the scouting system.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said Bangladesh Scouts will mark the 50th anniversary of Scout in independent Bangladesh this year.
“I applaud the initiative to celebrate this day as ‘Bangladesh Scouts Day’,”the premier added.
She said Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s dream was to build a happy and prosperous non-communal Bangladesh.
In continuation of that, the Awami League led government has made unprecedented development in the country in the last 13 years, she said, adding that the government is implementing various programmes to take the youth of the country forward.
Hasina instructed all authorities concerned to open at least two scout teams in each educational institution and to open quality ‘Girl in Scout team’ for girls.
The government will continue to support Scouting, she said.
She hoped that every member of Bangladesh Scouts will play their role in building the golden Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of Nation by performing their duties with patriotism and devotion.
Both the president and the premier wished the overall success of Bangladesh Scouts Day.
