President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday greeted all concerned, including the officials and employees of the department of fire service and civil defence on the occasion of Fire Service and Civil Defence Week 2015.
In separate messages on the eve of the week, they wished success of all programmes taken marking the event.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said the role of fire service and civil defence is very important for fire fighting, serving the injured, transporting critical patients and ensuring public safety during natural or man-made calamities.
The workers of fire service and civil defence first stand by the people during any calamity risking their lives, he said and hoped that the observance of fire service and civil defence week would create awareness among the people and enhance skills of fireman on tackling disasters.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said fire service and civil defence is an emergency service providing organization. Its members take part in firefighting and rescue operations risking their lives during disasters like earthquake, fire and river and road accidents.
She said that the government had implemented extensive programmes to enhance capability of fire service and civil defence with a view to building a safe Bangladesh.
“Along with enhancing quality of service and efficiency of this organization, we have increased facilities for its officials and employees by many times,” the Prime Minister said.
She appreciated the role of fire service and civil defence members during calamities in the past and hoped that they would be more courageous and sacrificing in firefighting and rescue operations in future.
